Aramco Says No One Hurt in Blast Saudi Aramco needed about 40 minutes to put out the fire caused by a missile strike on a fuel depot in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, with evidence pointing to a sophisticated attack on the kingdom’s energy infrastructure. No one was hurt in the explosion or blaze, and supplies from the facility in Saudi Arabia’s second-biggest city were not interrupted, an Aramco official said Tuesday, asking not to be identified due to company policy. Monday’s attack, for which Houthi rebels in neighboring Yemen claimed responsibility, was “similar” to the one on Aramco’s Abqaiq oil-processing plant and Khurais field in September 2019, the official said. Missiles and armed drones temporarily knocked out about half of Saudi Arabia’s oil-production capacity in last year’s attack. Aramco is still assessing the extent of the damage from Monday’s strike, which tore a hole measuring roughly two square ... Aframax tanker ‘attacked’ in Red Sea The Aframax tanker Agrari was "attacked by an unknown source" early this morning, while at berth in the Red Sea port of Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia, and suffered a breach, ship management company TMS Tankers said. TMS Tankers, which manages the 107,000 deadweight tonne (dwt) tanker, said it was struck one metre above the waterline and breached, having discharged at the port and while preparing to depart. The tanker transported a fuel oil cargo from Ventspils, Latvia to Shuqaiq, arriving on 23 November, according to oil analytics firm Vortexa. TMS Tankers said that the vessel is in ballast condition and stable, and no injuries or pollution were reported as a result of the incident. The cause of the incident remains unclear, but any indication of higher risks in the Red Sea will concern the shipping industry. The Red Sea is one of the busiest ... Why a Thriving Civilization in Malta Collapsed 4,000 Years Ago The Ġgantija temples of Malta are among the earliest free-standing buildings known. Photo credit: Bs0u10e01 / Wikicommons. The mysteries of an ancient civilization that survived for more than a millennium on the island of Malta—and then collapsed within two generations—have been unravelled by archaeologists who analyzed pollen buried deep within the earth and ancient DNA from skulls and bones. It’s part of a field of work that is expanding the use of archaeological techniques into environments where they were previously thought to be unusable. The Temple Culture of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean began nearly 6,000 years ago and at its height probably numbered several thousand people—far denser than the people of mainland Europe could manage at the time. The island people constructed elaborate sacred sites, such as the famous Ġgantija temple complex, and their buildings are among the earliest free-standing ... China makes rare, but small, draw on crude oil inventories (The opinions expressed here are those of the author, a columnist for Reuters.) FILE PHOTO: A China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) vessel is seen near oil tanks at the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC)'s Dalian Petrochemical Corp in Dalian, Liaoning province, China October 15, 2019. REUTERS/Stringer LAUNCESTON, Australia (Reuters) - One of the standout features of the crude oil market since the start of the coronavirus pandemic has been the extraordinary amount being stored by China. But that stopped in October, at least temporarily. A combination of record refinery processing and an easing of import volumes, as the last of the cheap crude bought during a brief price war in April was delivered, led to a likely small draw on inventories in October. China doesn’t disclose the volumes of crude flowing into strategic and commercial stockpiles. But an estimate can be made by deducting the ... The Triumph of Mankind Over the Great Reset In The Dystopic Great Reset and the Fight Back: Population Reduction and Hope for the Children of Men , our Part I, we developed on our previous essays on planned obsolescence and the problems of the old paradigm as we enter the 4th Industrial Revolution. We looked at how several science fiction works like ‘The Virus’ and ‘Children of Men’ in culture actually predicted and lent to us an understanding the new reified nightmare being built around us. Finally, we looked at Althusser’s ‘ISA’, Ideological State Apparatus and how this was developed towards a politically correct elite culture which opened the door to the so-called ‘new normal’, where slavery and self-harm are virtue signals. At the end of ‘The Dystopic Great Reset and the Fight Back […]’ that it would be necessary to trace aspects of the history of the social ... China’s oil buying binge to run on in 2021 as tank operators, refiners stock up FILE PHOTO: A China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) vessel is seen near oil tanks at the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC)'s Dalian Petrochemical Corp in Dalian, Liaoning province, China October 15, 2019. REUTERS/Stringer China's oil buying binge to run on in 2021 as tank operators, refiners stock up Energy & Environment Chen AizhuMuyu XuGavin Maguire SINGAPORE/BEIJING (Reuters) - China’s commercial oil stockpiling sector, which emerged as a key swing buyer of crude as prices plunged earlier this year, is setting plans to grow again in 2021, supporting a further boost in imports. Private tank farm operators, refiners and traders pumped an extra 310-600 million barrels of oil into storage in China this year, according to a survey of five analysts, more than a month’s usage in the world’s second-largest oil consumer. The buying helped prop up global oil markets as the coronavirus slashed demand, and ... Kurt Cobb: Nature on the ballot and the ‘parliament of things’ There were some obvious and even historic ways in which nature was on the ballot this year in the United States: Orange County, Florida voters overwhelmingly approved a charter amendment to give rights to two rivers to be free from pollution. By a margin of 89 percent, voters approved "the right to sue corporate polluters in court, without having to show they have been personally harmed, as state law requires." The state legislature's preemption of local jurisdiction regarding rights of nature may not be an obstacle if it is ruled unconstitutional in a case currently before the courts. American participation in the Paris Agreement, the climate accord reached by the world's governments in 2015, was also on the ballot indirectly. President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement. Trump's opponent, Joe Biden, pledged to have the United States ... Oil Demand at Pre-Pandemic Levels Bobby Tudor, chairman of Tudor Pickering Holt & Co., expects global oil demand to follow GDP growth in 2021. He speaks with Bloomberg's Alix Steel and Guy Johnson on "Bloomberg Markets." Tom Wayburn and Gail Tverberg discuss ERoEI · Gail Tverberg says: June 11, 2013 at 8:03 am The minimum ERoEI has to be a whole lot higher than 1.0. I am not sure what the right number is. I suspect it is something close to 9.0; certainly at least 5.0. The calculation leaves out way too much. In particular, it does not properly charge for energy which is generated by front-end inputs (it does not handle timing at all). It does not consider the need to generate a high enough return to support the need for government. The idea of moving an economy to lower and lower ERoEI does not work. This is what leads to collapse. First of all this is meant to be an apology for my inexcusable, childish, pathological, lousy, no good, furshlugginer posts reproduced at the end of this apology so that I never forget my...
